About Me

Brief Overview

I have been a software engineer for more than 15 years, and I enjoy transforming real-world business requirements into extensible and scalable software solutions. Throughout my career, I have focused on backend engineering, designing and implementing many large-scale systems. Most of these systems were high-throughput platforms serving massive user bases.

While working at Alibaba, I worked on systems supporting China's Double 11 Shopping Festival (similar to Black Friday) for three consecutive years. During the festival, the platform processed hundreds of thousands of orders per second, and I helped design scalable and reliable systems to handle extreme traffic peaks and ensure smooth operations.

Many of the systems I worked on were not only high-throughput but also involved extremely complex business logic. I believe Domain-Driven Design is a powerful approach for designing enterprise software with complex business domains. Tackling systems that required both high throughput and complex logic taught me early on that there are no silver bullets in architecture; each problem requires careful analysis and thoughtful trade-offs. I am grateful to the companies I worked for, which provided me with many opportunities to gain valuable experience in this area.

Recently, I have been expanding my skills into full-stack development with Next.js. I built this personal website using Next.js through vibe coding. I believe AI enables developers to learn new technologies faster and improve their productivity. In the future, developers who can effectively leverage AI will be able to create more value.

Why This Blog

Firstly, I’d like to synthesize, distill, and share my experience and ideas. Recently, I relocated to New Zealand with my family; my wife began her new journey as a master's student in AI, and I am working part-time while taking care of my family. New Zealand is a beautiful country with beautiful people. We are still exploring the country. We volunteer at Fair Food and the SPCA, where we help care for dogs. We love this country.

Secondly, English is not my mother tongue, and I am still improving my English. Writing blogs is a good way to improve my English and express my thoughts. I also have many ideas I'd like to share, because I realized that I hadn't had much time to slow down and reflect over the past few years. It now feels like a good time to synthesize and distill my thoughts.

Finally, I am looking for a Senior Software Engineer position in New Zealand. I believe my technical skills make me a strong fit for such roles.

And perhaps most importantly, if any of my experiences can help another engineer, then writing this blog is already worthwhile.

Personality and Hobbies

As for my hobbies, I love snowboarding and table tennis. I think reading is also one of my hobbies, as I have read a lot of books in Chinese. I love detective novels, history, psychology, and philosophy as well as technical books. My favorite psychology book is "Social Psychology" by David G. Myers, and my favorite philosopher is Aristotle. Hmm… actually, maybe Diogenes too.

I'm easy-going, and I'm interested in learning about different cultures. I have to admit that I'm also introverted; maybe reading is a better way for me to relax rather than going to parties. Actually, I enjoy parties with friends, but being around too many strangers makes me nervous.

Well, that's me — a calm, ordinary software engineer.
